Sanctuary Strategy Sessions

Sanctuary Strategy Sessions is going to be virtual this week on Thurs evening, so BYO whatever you want and show up on Zoom.

We’re working on getting space where we can host, so lmk if you’ve got ideas.

We’ll be digging more into the Writing Workshop side of things, about what sanctuary means to you and ways to tell that story that can grow our collective impact and help create more protections for people.

We want to really make sure that we’re getting as many voices as possible elevated towards a better future.

Plus some powerful types of direct action that can be taken to make a major impact on the state of IL, along with what’s ahead.

Thinking about conversations with trans kids and their families about what it’s meant to move here from red states, and starting in high school.

Also some conversations about how racism shows up here; if anything’s changed since “America to Me” was filmed at OPRF, and the connections between bullying, fascism, racism, sexism, antagonism, and more… how a lot of people still don’t see those connections… and work not to see them.

A sanctuary can’t be a hostile place; it’s interesting to think about the intersection of peace and protection. Real peace can’t exist without justice.

We don’t realize how much collective power is held in Oak Park. It’s not just about making our stories heard to the people in positions of power, it’s realizing how much influence we and our neighbors have together.

Stories are incredibly powerful; especially when we’re facing crisis and we need to build pathways of opportunity and hope that a better world is not only possible, it’s within reach.
